The Best & The Worst: H&M Make Up

Wednesday, 2 May 2018

After discovering so many good products from Primark earlier this year, it made me curious to try more own brand make up and see if I could find some more underrated gems. This time I decided to try H&M; although not as cheap as Primark it is still extremely affordable, the foundation cost £8.99, very reasonable. It also meant I had another excuse to go shopping so I was excited to give it a go! After putting all to the test here are the best and the worst of all the products I tried...

THE BEST

Precision Sponge, £2.99

The feel of this sponge reminds me of the Beauty Blender; it's not too dense so it doesn't feel like you're attacking your face when you use it. It's only £2.99 so if you're looking for a good Beauty Blender dupe then I think this is the one!

Soft Glow Loose Powder, £9.99

This was one of those products that when I first used it I absolutely HATED it. But I soon learnt that there were certain ways to use it and it worked beautifully and other ways definitely not to use. I actually quite liked it. My issue came when I tried to bake with it, although it is technically translucent you can see in the picture it's actually quite dark and when I used it to set under my eyes it looked extremely cakey and dark. However, when I did a light dusting all over my face, I did give a really pretty luminosity and glow to my skin. So, for future reference, no baking with this.

Bronzing Powder, £4.99

This bronzer is pretty good, it's not one I'd reach for every day but it does the job. My only gripe with this is the colours are very orange so definitely go in with a light hand.

Powder Blush in "Soft Russet", £8.99

This blush was veerrrryyyyyy pigmented. If you're going in with a light hand whilst using the bronzer you need to use an even lighter hand with this blush. Honestly one dip and tap off as much excess as you can. Once applied it looks really nice, but I can't stress enough how pigmented it is so be careful!

Eyebrow Pencil in "Espresso Brown", £3.99

I actually really really like this brow pencil. It's soft but not too pigmented so I find it gives a really nice natural finish and a very easy application. I will definitley use this again!

Eyeshadow Palette in "Aubergine Dream", £12.99

This palette was by no means bad, it's actually pretty good. It's a great size for travel and would make a lovely gift. I particularly love the packaging. I just can't help but think of my Morphe palette where I got 25 shades for £19 and the quality is incredible. But that is just my opinion, £12.99 is definitely not expensive so if you like the look of them then give them a go!

Liquid Eyeshadow in "Vintage Tulle", £6.99

This was probably my favourite product of the bunch. Really nice application, intense pigmentation and once it's set - it does not budge! Worth every penny.

Liquid Eyeliner, £4.99

To be honest this liner is like many others I've tried. However, at a modest £4.99 it is quite cheap so if you find yourself in a H&M then definitely pick one up. But I wouldn't say you had to make a trip especially!

Control Chic Mascara, £8.99

What I liked about this mascara was it gave a lot of volume but the brush wasn't too big so I was able to have more control with application. It also layered quite nicely.

Matte Lipstick in "Hot Chocolate", £8.99

This lipstick is extremely matte, I'm not sure this is the kind of lipstick I could wear all day without it completely drying out my lips. I did like the pay off however, and they had a really nice selection of colours.

THE WORST

Cover-Up Concealer, £5.99

The reason I don't like this is completely personal preference. It blended pretty nicely, it just didn't give me anywhere near enough coverage that I need. If you're going for the natural look then great, for me? It's a no.

All-Day Liquid Foundation, £8.99

I really wanted this to be good, but it just wasn't. It didn't blend well, it picked up on any skin texture and became really patchy. Nope, nope, nope. Not for me.

Overall I'm pretty impressed with how the make up look turned out, if you're on a budget then I would definitely recommend you give some of these products a go. There are some that I will happily use again, and others that I definitely won't. But that's why I love trying out new products; you never know what you're going to come across!
