Make Up Look & Review: Topshop Smokey Eye Palette

Monday, 10 October 2016
A smokey eye is one of my favourite make up looks to do so when a new palette comes on the market I am all over it! The palette itself costs £15 and features 8 colours; three mattes, four shimmers and one glittery colour.

When I first looked at the colours in the pan I thought they were so pretty and autumnal, it also states on the case that the colours are “highly pigmented” however when I did swatches of them (as you can see in the picture) they weren’t very pigmented at all. I know this might be okay for some people who want to go for a more subtle look however I usually prefer the colour to be a bit more intense. When it came to actually applying the eyeshadow on the eye I found they blended nicely but as they weren’t pigmented to start with the more I blended the more the colour seemed to disappear off the eye, meaning I had to build up a lot to achieve the pay off in the pictures below. I definitely think you’d need a good primer to keep these colours on all day and night.

It’s disappointing because the colours are really pretty but you can’t see them. For example, I used the blue colour on the inner bottom lash line but you really can’t tell. I have two other Topshop eyeshadow quad palettes and the colours are great so I’m not sure why these colours don’t come out the same? I can’t believe I’m writing another bad review for a Topshop product but I just don’t think this is very good. I know it’s only £15 but I think in this case it might be worth spending a bit more on a better product. Of course if you like the look I’ve done in the pictures below then go for it, for me though I need a bit more colour!
