Everyone and their Nan seem to be bringing out liquid lipsticks and as consumers we’re all obsessed! For me, I love the application; you can be so precise with the little doe foot applicator and I actually really like the smooth feel when using them on my lips. The Topshop liquid lipsticks come in 5 different colours for £8.50 each, you do only get 5ml in each tube which I found a bit stingy as there are other popular liquid lipsticks available where you get more product for less money. An example being the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, favourites of mine, which cost £5.50 and you get 8ml. However being a fan of Topshop I was willing to put this issue to one side and try them out as I may be bowled over by their quality.
The three big things you should look for when testing liquid lipsticks is pigmentation, texture and staying power. These liquid lipsticks definitely have pigmentation, as you can see in the swatch picture below I only did a couple of swipes for each colour and the colour was very intense. I also think the colours themselves are very pretty.
The issue for me is the texture and staying power. When I applied it to my lips, it felt very wet; I left it for about half an hour but nothing changed, it almost felt like a gloss. Because it was so wet, when it came to doing the transfer test pretty much all of the product transferred to my hand. This doesn’t bode well for wearing it out to dinner or for the day; if you do choose to do this then definitely take it with so you can reapply. It doesn’t say anywhere about these being matte so I wasn’t expecting them to dry down completely but just a little bit may have made it stay put a lot longer?
Unfortunately I’m not overly excited by these, I think there are probably better liquid lipsticks out there at similar price points. This will come as a shock because I love pretty much everything Topshop, especially their make up, so I am disappointed that these just weren’t that great!
